An Orientation Seminar in Norilsk for Competition was held for the Finalists

The consortia representatives arrived in Norilsk and immediately began acquaintance with the local people, territory and city.

At the orientation meeting took place at Autonomous Non-profit Organization Norilsk Development Agency, where Maksim Mironov, the head of the agency, welcomed the consortia members and presented the development prospects for the city.

During a sightseeing tour, participants discussed the history of the city, visited the Norilsk’s “old town”, saw Norilsk labor camp and important architectural constructions.

What is more, within the framework of the orientation seminar, the finalists toured production accompanied by industrial guides, as well as Russia’s only training base in mines.

On November, 21 in Norilsk, an Orientation seminar for finalists of the open international competition for the development of an architectural and planning concept for the renovation of the city of Norilsk until 2035 took place.
The finalists visited Norilsk distant areas which previously had a status of separate settlements. There are now plans to improve the landscape, to build recreation zones, and much more.

Informal meetings were held with Andrey Dobrovolsky, the head of Talnakh regional branch of the city of Norilsk administration, and Elena Nedbaylo, the head of the regional branch of the city of Norilsk administration.

A sightseeing tour for the finalists was led by Stanislav Struchkov. The group of finalists visited the territories in the central district of Norilsk that are to be developed.

At the end of day, a meeting with community of professionals took place. The consortia had the opportunity to ask their questions in private.

Preparations were made for tomorrow’s meeting with Dmitry Karasev, head of the city of Norilsk.

The third day of the Orientation Seminar for Competition Finalists in Norilsk has come to a close. 

A meeting with city administration representatives, Norilsk city council and Autonomous Non-profit Organization Norilsk Development Agency took place at Norilsk administration, and the finalists had an opportunity to ask all their questions. 

Dmitry Karasev, head of the city of Norilsk, welcomed the consortia members, discussed the outcome of past events with them, and presented the prospects of renovation for the city.  

Also, a consultation took place with the executive branch interior agencies of the city of Norilsk responsible for architecture and urban planning, property relations, housing and public utilities, public facilities, economics and social policy. The finalists were able to discuss refining the objectives of the competition territory and architectural look of the city development.

After a fruitful conversation, all participants toured the Greenhouse facility, where they acquainted themselves with the work of the staff and tasted strawberries grown in the northernmost hothouses.

On November 23, a strategic session “Norilsk – 2035” was held at the Polar State University.

The session was attended by the representatives of the Federation Council, the State Duma, Federal Ministries, VEB.RF, the State Commission for Arctic Development, the Fund for Assistance to the Reform of the Housing and Utilities Sector, the Norilsk Administration, PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel, ANO Norilsk Development Agency, public organizations, scientific communities, small and medium-sized businesses, as well as finalists of the Open International Competition for the development of an architectural and planning renovation concept for the city of Norilsk until 2035.

The discussion was moderated by the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company, which specializes in solving strategic management problems.

The session included speeches by external and internal experts, a lecture on the experience of shaping the vision and implementation of strategies by the cities around the world, as well as various group work.
